Open Innovation - reading exercise
Read the following passage and answer the questions to help your understanding.
Some businesses use their own staff to find new ways to improve their products and services, even protecting what they know from outsiders. This is known as a closed strategy or closed innovation.
Open innovation uses internal and external resources, such as people, technology, and finance. Research and development can happen with the help of outside partners with potential savings in time and money, and greater opportunity to have new ideas or join new markets.
Examples of open innovation are seen in research where scientists share ideas, crowdsourcing where many people are asked to contribute towards a common goal, and ‘connect and develop’, a way of working together with others to develop new ideas, products, and services.
